Rescue Me ID: 16-11-29-00332Elvis (male)

Treeing Walker Coonhound Mix    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Hi there, My name is Elvis. They call me Elvis 'cause I ain't nothin' but a hounddog and apparently I'm a pretty dang good singer. I am about 6 years old and I weigh 63.1 lbs. I was found as a stray in the East Liverpool area and I was picked up by the pound. I was obviously and "outside" dog in my previous life, but I am very happy to say that has all changed for me. The girls here say I get to be a house dog from here on out and I do really like the thought of that! I love my warm, cozy bed here. I love that it stays warm all the time in the winter and I love that my water never freezes over at night anymore. I keep my kennel ... (Read More)clean at night, but I will likely need some work with house training since I have been an outside dog. I get along well with all of the other dogs I have been around since I have been here at the pound too. If you're looing for a super sweet and loving dog to add to your family, please consider adopting me. Our adoption fee is $120.00. The adoption fee must be paid in CASH. We are unable to accept personal checks or credit/debit cards for adoption fees. ALL dogs/puppies adopted from our shelter will receive their parvo distemper vaccine, bordetella vaccine, rabies vaccine (if aged at 12 weeks or older), be dewormed with a 3 day course of panacur dewormer, be microchipped, receive their current Ohio dog license and will be spayed or neutered. ALL DOGS/PUPPIES WILL BE SPAYED OR NEUTERED unless a health issue prohibits the surgery from being performed. Not all dogs posted for adoption are spayed/ neutered yet. If you're driving a long distance to adopt, please verify that the vetting process has been completed and dog you're interested in adopting is still available for adoption. The above mentioned vetting is all included in your adoption fee. The adoption fee and what is included in the adoption fee is NON-NEGOTIABLE. Adoptions MUST be done at the pound and in person as there is paperwork to fill out and an adoption contract that must be signed by the adopter. This means you must be willing to travel to our shelter to adopt. IF the dog you're interested in adopting has medical conditions or injuries which require medical treatment, we ask that you help with the medical bills so we can continue to help the dogs coming in who need additional vet care. We are a county run shelter, therefore we cannot control our intake or the health or behavior of the dogs that come in to our shelter. Although we try our hardest to place all of our adoptable dogs, there are certain circumstances in which any dog in our care could be euthanized at any time and without further notice (IE: sudden untreatable medical condition or injury, temperament or behavioral problems which may not be apparent when the dog first arrives, lack or space, etc.), therefore all dogs at our shelter should be considered urgent. The adoption of a more highly adoptable dog will mean more time for the less adoptable dog in the kennel next to him! Shelter hours are: Monday-Friday: 8 am- 4 pm Saturday: 9 am- 12 pm. The pound is CLOSED to the public on Sunday. There is nobody in the office on Saturday and Sunday, so therefore we are unable to answer or return phone calls over the weekend. Can't adopt a dog? We would love to have more volunteers who are able to spend time with our dogs! The dogs LOVE going for walks and the socialization and exercise helps make the dogs more adoptable. Rescue Me ID: 16-11-20-00408Duncan (male)

Rat Terrier Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Hi there. My name is Duncan. I'm about 1 year old and I weigh about 25 lbs. I was brought in to the pound as a stray. I am a feral dog, which means I have had little to no human socialization at all. I am completely unsocialized other than the human contact that I have had since arriving here at the pound. I mostly just try to avoid humans as much as I can. I still find them quite terrifying, though I am doing much better than I was when I first arrived. I do like other dogs really well and I do great with them. Being around the other dogs here has really helped me start coming around. When I am around the other dogs, I will actually get up ... (Read More)and wander around and explore things. I am getting more and more curious about people but I haven't started trying to come up to them yet and I don't really care for being touched yet. So far, I haven't attempted to bite, even though I am terrified. I mostly just try to hide to avoid you. I need a home or a rescue group with knowledge and experience in helping feral/unsocialized dogs. Needless to say, once I learn to accept and like human contact, I will require a good but of training, socialization and housebreaking. Please help me if you're able. Our adoption fee is $120.00. The adoption fee must be paid in CASH. We are unable to accept personal checks or credit/debit cards for adoption fees.     Hi there. My name is Helen. I'm about 2 years old and I weigh about 45 lbs. I was found as a stray in the Salem area and I was taken to Angels for Animals by a good samaritan. It was over a weekend and I was wearing my dog license, so Angels kept me for the weekend to try to make contact with my owner, but nobody was able to make contact with him so I was transferred here to the pound. The pound was not able to make contact with my owner either. I was here for a couple of weeks and my owner never attempted to make contact with the pound, so I was spayed and I am now available for adoption. I am a very sweet and loving dog. I am ... (Read More)wonderfully sweet with people of all shapes and sizes. I just love everyone to pieces. I get along really well with other dogs too! I love to play!! I was definitely a house dog before and I seem to maybe be housebroken. I do this thing where I climb a 6' fence in approximately 2 seconds, so my new family will need to take special care to walk me or tie me out to go potty since I have no trouble getting out of fences when I am not being supervised. If you're looking for a wonderful dog to add to your family, please consider adopting me. Our adoption fee is $120.00. The adoption fee must be paid in CASH. Rescue Me ID: 16-09-22-00341Peaches (female)

Pit Bull Mix    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Hi there! My name is Peaches. I am about 5 years old and I weigh about 50 lbs. I was seized by the pound during a drug raid at the place where we lived. The police said it is known that the guy who owned us had been taking some of his dogs up to Detroit to fight them. There was some equipment there too that the girls say are consistent with dog fighting. I was lucky enough to have been valued enough to be a house dog with them. The pound thinks that's cause I bark some when new people come around. I guess maybe I was supposed to scare people away from their drugs... I am really just a big baby though. I bark but it's more of an 'I'm so ... (Read More)excited to see you' kind of bark. Unlike the other dogs from my place, I was valued as a pet and the difference in personality between me and them really shows. I have known kindness and I have gotten attention... at least when they were around. I absolutely adore people and in my eyes, they could do no wrong. I love giving kisses, getting belly rubs and going for walks. I have some scars on my face, but the pounds doesn't think that I have been fought so much as I have just maybe gotten too close to some of the fighting dogs and they have grabbed me. I do fine around most other dogs after a proper introduction. I have kind of a dominant personality, so I probably wouldn't do so well in a home with a female dog, but I should be okay in a home with a male dog. I have not been around small dogs or cats, so it is unknown whether I would be okay with them or not. I do pretty good with potty habits, but I will likely need a little work on it once I get to a new home. If you're looking for a great dog to add to your family, please consider adopting me. (Less)

Animal ID: 37016Gizmo (male)

Staffordshire Bull Terrier Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Hello. My name is Gizmo. I'm around 1 year old and I weigh about 40 lbs. I was seized by the pound during a drug raid at the place where we lived. The police said it is known that the guy who owned us had been taking some of us up to Detroit to fight us. There was some equipment there too that the girls say are consistent with dog fighting. Thankfully, I had not yet began my life in the ring. Although I hadn't been fought, I have been doen very wrong by people. Things some humans could never comprehen and things I wish I could forget. I am head shy and afraid of having my collar messed with (the folks at the pound definitely things I have ... (Read More)been strangled some). I am really glad to have been sprung from that life of living on a log chain. Now I get to have a new, wonderful life with a family that will love me, adore me and never do me wrong again. I will obviously need a patient family with the time and patience to train a guy like me. Please remember that I haven't had the kindest past or any kind of positive training. I have never known kind words or a soft touch, so I just don't really know how to act when I am treated kindly. I like it but it does take a little bit of time for me to learn to trust new people. I do get along well with other dogs. Gidget, a friend of mine who also lived where I did, is a good playmate of mine. We LOVE each other. I am going to make someone a really great dog. I just need a family that will work with me. If you're looking for a good dog to add to your family, please consider adopting me. Hello. My name is Rocket. I'm around 2-3 years old and I weigh about 45 lbs. I was found as a stray in the Wellsville area. I had an injured front leg. The folks that found me really like me and intended to keep me, so they took me to the vet to get me checked out. It turns out that I have an old fracture around the joint of my leg that had started to heal. The vet said it's best to just leave it be and let it heal since it's pretty straight. What the nice folks didn't consider is that they have cats. They didn't known that I DON'T like cats... unfortunately they couldn't keep me because of my dislike of cats so they called the pound to ... (Read More)come pick me up. I am a very sweet and loving boy with people and I get along well with the other dogs I have met here at the pound. I also appear to have been a house dog at some point in my life. Animal ID: 29916Princess- URGENT!! (female)

Pit Bull Mix    Age: Young Adult

Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Hi there. My name is Princess. I'm about 3 years old and I weigh 42.6 lbs. **UPDATE** I desperately need to find a home soon. I have been at the shelter for months now and I am not doing well here. I am becoming very stressed out!! I cannot stay here for much longer and maintain my sanity.** I was found as a stray in East Liverpool. Let me start by telling you, my first 3 years of my life have been quite chaotic. When I came into the pound, they scanned me for a microchip. I was already chipped so they looked it up. They contacted my previous owner who lives in CT. He said that he had me boarded at a vet hospital and wasn't able to take me ... (Read More)back (his reasoning wasn't specific as to why), so the vet hospital kept me there. The vet hospital did end up finally finding me a home. The guy was a great guy and it was perfect for me. He was a truck driver and he took me all over the place with him. Unfortunately for me, the company he drove for said that he couldn't take me with him anymore just because I am a Pit Bull! He was at a truck stop in WV and some people struck up a conversation with him. They said they thought I was really beautiful and they really liked me. He thought they were going to be a good home for me and they really seemed to want me so he gave me to them. Well, the very next morning, I was found in East Liverpool down by the river. Now I am at the pound and looking for one of those forever homes I keep hearing about. I am a very playful, sweet, smart and loving little pittie girl. I give endless kisses and cuddles and I am always overjoyed to see you! I LOVE playing with squeaky toys and balls. I have been VERY good inside since I have been here. I know basic commands and a few tricks. My only real 'issue' is that I need a home without other dogs/cats or small children. If you're looking for a great dog to add to your family, please consider adopting me. Our adoption fee is $120.00. The adoption fee must be paid in CASH.     Hi there. My name is Jax. I'm about 3 years old and I weigh about 85 lbs. **UPDATE** I URGENTLY NEED TO FIND A FAMILY SOON! I have been here at the shelter for months and I am not doing well here. I need more interaction and space to run. I was found as a stray in the East Liverpool area. I ran a lot and I was always tearing out garbage in my neighborhood and such. I had cherry eye on one side and fleas, but I was in great shape otherwise. I'm a big ol' beefcake of a boy. Nobody called to report ... (Read More)me missing so I had my eye repaired, I have been neutered and I am now available for adoption. I am a very loving dog. I give endless kisses and cuddles. I am a major lover! I am wonderful with people if all sizes. I have even been wonderful around children. I do get along with other dogs but I come on a little too strong sometimes and they don't always like me. I should definitely meet any dogs that I would be living with. I appear to be housebroken and I am a wonderful boy when I am in the office with the girls. If you're looking for a great dog to add to your family, please consider adopting me. **UPDATE** Jax has received a full sponsorship to go to any approved rescue group from Ed and Mary in memory of their dog Waggs who crossed the Rainbow Bridge recently.
